Conferenza Inaugurale della Cattedra UNESCO sulla Prevenzione e Mitigazione sostenibile del Rischio idrogeologico

Luogo: Auditorium Sant’Apollonia – Via San Gallo, 25/a – Firenze

Data: 27/10/2016

Geo-hydrological hazards are a major threat to human life, property, cultural heritage and the natural and built environment. They include landslides, floods, debris flows, slope movements, ground subsidence, soil and coastal erosion, sinkholes and other hazards related to the climate changes and to the local hydro-geological conditions. Risk arises from the interplay of these physical processes with social and cultural factors, such as urbanization, emergency planning, risk preparedness and knowledge.
The mission of the Chair is to promote research and development (R&D) for the prevention and management of geo-hydrological hazards, in order to support policies and actions of risk reduction.
In particular, the Chair aims at the implementation of the Sendai Partnership 2015-2025, launched at the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) in Sendai by the InternaVonal Strategy for Disaster ReducVon (ISDR) and by the International Consortium on Landslides (ICL), for global promotion of understanding and reducing landslide disaster risk, which was also signed by UNESCO and the Italian Government, among other partners and UN organizations.
